Fireflies West Rides Home Having Raised $575,000 for City of Hope

The 10th Annual Fireflies West ride was the largest in the event’s history, featuring 60 cyclists who traversed a 700 mile journey down the California coast for the ultimate cause: cancer research and treatment. As the riders - exhausted and exhilarated - crossed the finish line, they were greeted with cheers and the uplifting news that this year’s event has raised an unprecedented $575,000 for City of Hope Hospital.

At the welcome home event held at 72andSunny, Fireflies West Co-Founders Jake Scott and Bryan Farhy spoke about the Fireflies genesis and evolution, culminating in a rousing rallying cry: For Those Who Suffer, We Ride. What began as a few intrepid cycling enthusiasts has, over the last decade, included 250 participating Fireflies West riders, along with a supporting volunteer network, and over 30 industry sponsors. The total raised to date for City of Hope Hospital is $2,500,000.

City of Hope is a leading research, treatment center dedicated to the prevention, treatment and cure of cancer and other life threatening illnesses guided by a compassionate patient-centered philosophy.  Every dollar raised via Fireflies West goes directly to City of Hope without any administration costs throughout, ensuring that every tax-deductible donation goes directly to fighting cancer. Moreover, the annual riders fund their own way and expenses out of their own pocket, a reflection of their incredibly generous spirits.
